June 14, 2024 – (Minneapolis) – – Catholic Charities Twin Cities announced today that it has commenced a nationwide search for its next president and CEO to succeed current President and CEO Michael Goar, who will remain in a supporting role with Catholic Charities through summer 2024.

During his tenure, Michael Goar led Catholic Charities Twin Cities through a challenging time for our community. A global pandemic, rising living costs, the opioid epidemic, and a shortage of affordable housing have resulted in an increase in both the number of people experiencing homelessness and the acuity of their needs. Under Goar’s leadership, the organization has developed innovative programs to address these challenges and the increased demand for emergency shelter services – last year, serving more than 25,000 people in need.

Catholic Charities Board Chair Desirae Butler stated, “We are grateful for Michael’s leadership and dedication over the past four years. He has played an integral role in Catholic Charities’ growth and success, and we wish him all the best in his next role.”

Michael Goar has accepted the role of president and CEO of Sisters of Charity Health System, a health care organization which provides faith-based, high-quality care in Ohio and South Carolina. The health system operates three health care ministries, six outreach organizations, and three grantmaking foundations that address causes and consequences of poverty.

The Catholic Charities Board of Directors has initiated a comprehensive search for a new CEO and is committed to finding a visionary leader who will continue to drive the organization’s mission and strategic goals, with a strong focus on financial sustainability. In the interim, the Board will work closely with senior leadership to maintain the
momentum of the organization’s initiatives and will release additional information as it becomes available.

Michael Goar expressed gratitude for the opportunity to lead Catholic Charities Twin Cities and confidence in its future. “Catholic Charities has an exceptional team and a bright future ahead. I am proud of what we have accomplished together and look forward to watching this organization continue to provide dignified support and solutions for our most vulnerable neighbors,” he said.

Catholic Charities remains focused on serving those most in need and advocating for justice in the community during this important transition, which is only possible because of the significant, enduring community support it receives.
