Double – or triple – your impact
Many companies offer a matching gift program to support and encourage philanthropy for employees. When you participate in your employer’s matching program, your gift may help twice or even three times the number of children, adults, and families in the Twin Cities.
Some companies also extend programs to match gifts made by spouses and retirees or to match volunteer time. Contributions of any amount help us provide essential human services, create pathways out of poverty, and break cyclical injustices for our most vulnerable neighbors.

What are matching gifts?
Matching gifts are a type of corporate philanthropy that allow donors to maximize the impact of their donation.
How much will my company match?
Most gifts are matched dollar for dollar, doubling your gift, while some companies may even triple the gift. Companies may vary the amount matched by employment status.
Is there a minimum amount I must give to be matched?
Some companies will match as little as one dollar. Most commonly, they match gifts of $25 or more. There are different caps on donation amounts.
Is there a deadline for submitting a matched gift?
Programs vary by company, however, many follow one of three common matching gift submission deadlines:
- End of the calendar year
- A set number of months from the date of the donation
- End of January or February in the year following when the donation was made

In 2020, Kristine’s life turned upside down when her husband died unexpectedly and she suffered a major medical crisis. Kristine’s financial hardships caused her to lose her housing.
In 2023, she found shelter at Catholic Charities’ Dorothy Day Place in St. Paul – and she began feeling seen again.
“I was so grateful to have opportunities again,” Kristine said. “I had my own things, I had people to help me, and I started to meet people that I felt like I could laugh with again.”
