Stocks and mutual funds
When you donate your investments, you make a tax-wise gift of maximum value.
Maximize your gift – and your tax savings
Donating appreciated securities like stocks, bonds, and mutual funds is a great way to give while saving on taxes. By giving funds you’ve already invested, you can help Catholic Charities provide support and solutions for people most in need in the Twin Cities. We welcome all stock and mutual fund transfers, with no minimum requirements.
How to give stocks and bonds
Giving stock that has been held more than 12 months offers twofold tax savings. First, you avoid paying capital gains tax on the increase in value of your stock. Second, you receive a tax deduction for the full fair market value of the stock on the date of the gift. Subtracting the tax savings from what you originally paid for the stock can result in a gift that costs just pennies on the dollar.
Stockbrokers require written instructions when transferring stock. You will need to give the following delivery information to your broker to make a gift to Catholic Charities Twin Cities:

How to give mutual funds

Your gifts in action
Starting over with a criminal record isn’t easy. Even while working two jobs at a restaurant and the Mall of America, Joshua struggled to make ends meet and find a permanent place to live.
With affordable housing at Catholic Charities Evergreen Residence in Minneapolis, Joshua was able to spend time in the computer lab refining his resume and looking for jobs that offered more regular hours. After a couple of weeks, he applied to work at a local pest control company and was hired. “The work-life balance is just perfect,” said Joshua. “They even provided a company truck for me and pay for the gas.”
