Estate and planned giving

Create a lasting impact on your community

“I think it’s important to think about the kind of legacy you want to leave as you age. Setting aside something — even if it’s a small amount — can have a big impact on a person’s life.”

Gary, Woodbury

Why an estate or planned gift?

Catholic Charities has been serving the Twin Cities area for over 150 years, and we haven’t done it alone. Generations of supporters like you have empowered us to continue providing essential services to those most in need. As we face the challenges of a changing world, your support is more crucial than ever.

Making an estate gift (also known as a planned gift) is simpler than you might think and can happen at any age or income level. Many of our donors embrace estate giving as a way to make a significant impact on a mission they care about at a level that would not be feasible during their lifetime. Below are some of the easiest and most common ways our legacy donors choose to give.

Types of planned gifts

These and more options can be explored in a conversation or meeting with someone on our giving team. Please contact our Planned Giving Officer, Chelsea Tollefson, at chelsea.tollefson@cctwincities.org or call (612) 616-5880.

Bequest

The simplest way to leave a lasting gift. Designate Catholic Charities Twin Cities as the beneficiary of your assets through your will or trust.

Beneficiary designation

Name Catholic Charities Twin Cities as a beneficiary on retirement accounts, life insurance policies, and donor advised funds. Retirement accounts can be a particularly tax-smart way to give – leaving this to a family member means it will be taxed and add to their taxable income, but charities receive this gift tax-free.

Charitable gift annuity

Transfer cash or property to us in exchange for fixed payments for the rest of your life.
