December 6, 2024 – (Minneapolis) – Catholic Charities Twin Cities announced today that it has selected Jamie Verbrugge as its next president and chief executive officer. Verbrugge will transition from his current role as City of Bloomington city manager over the next several weeks and formally assume the new position on January 21, 2025.

“We are pleased to welcome Jamie as the new president and CEO of Catholic Charities Twin Cities,” said Desirae Butler, chair of Catholic Charities’ Board of Directors. “His deep personal connection to Catholic Charities paired with his proven professional track record, commitment to public service, and strong leadership skills made him an ideal candidate.  I am confident Jamie will help guide the organization to even greater success in lifting up our neighbors and continuously improving the lives of the people we serve.”

Drawing from his decades of experience leading several Minnesota communities, Verbrugge will move Catholic Charities Twin Cities forward in its work to provide support and solutions for people most in need. As city manager for the City of Bloomington over the past nine years, Verbrugge has managed the daily operations of the city, including the implementation of its region-leading “Bloomington Tomorrow Together” strategic plan. Prior to this role, Verbrugge served for nearly seven years as the city manager in Brooklyn Park and five years as city administrator in Rosemount, in addition to previous roles with the City of Eagan and the City of Richfield.

“I am honored to join Catholic Charities as its new president and CEO,” said Verbrugge. “It is an incredibly meaningful opportunity to lead an organization with such a strong foundation. Catholic Charities has a dedicated team that creates life-changing impact for those most in need in our community every day. I look forward to working alongside them to save lives and build brighter futures across the Twin Cities.”

Verbrugge will succeed former Catholic Charities CEO Michael Goar, who was appointed president and CEO of Sisters of Charity Health System earlier this year. To ensure the continued success of Catholic Charities initiatives, Catholic Charities CFO John Marston was appointed interim president and CEO in August 2024. “John Marston is a trusted leader and advocate for our staff and the people we serve,” said Butler. “We’re deeply thankful for his stewardship of the organization during this time of transition.”

The selection of the new Catholic Charities Twin Cities president and CEO was the result of a nationwide search by executive search firm Ballinger | Leafblad, Inc., and an executive search committee led by Catholic Charities Board Chair Desirae Butler.
