Lawmakers heard your voice this legislative session

Lawmakers made key investments this legislative session that will help Minnesotans exit homelessness and remain in their homes including:

    • $13m in supportive housing, a proven solution to ending homelessness, and
    • $40m in FHPAP, a critical program that provides financial assistance for people experiencing homelessness or at imminent risk of losing their homes.

Successes for housing this session

The 2026 legislative session wrapped up on May 18th, and we have some successes to celebrate!

The legislature invested $13 million in supportive housing. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development is in the process of changing its funding priorities which will decrease funding for permanent supportive housing – a proven solution to ending homelessness. The funding passed this session will help stabilize the system amidst federal funding uncertainties, and will provide time for advocates, legislative leaders, and the state to work together to develop sustainable funding solutions.

The legislature also invested $40 million in the Family Homeless Prevention and Assistance Program (FHPAP)—a critical program that provides supportive services and financial assistance to eligible households that are experiencing homelessness or at imminent risk of losing their homes.

Investments in these two programs will help countless Minnesotans exit homelessness and remain in their homes.

In a legislative session with a tied House of Representatives and a narrow majority in the Senate, these are important, bi-partisan wins for Minnesota’s most vulnerable residents.

Catholic Charities worked in coalition with many partner organizations and the grassroots efforts were impactful. We all came together, shared our voices and made a difference. Thank you!
